Emtek Lockset Care

To improve Emtek lockset function, lubricate the working parts of the locksets with a spray graphite, available at home centers or hardware stores.
To clean your Emtek hardware, use water with a few drops of mild soap, such as Johnson’s Baby Soap, and a soft clean cloth.
To protect and extend the life of Emtek hardware, use a clear soft paste wax, such as Johnson’s Paste Wax, available at automotive supply stores.
Emtek Sandcast Bronze finishes are considered living finishes, and are intended to intentionally wear and patina over time with character aging
On Polished Brass or Polished Nickel Lifetime Emtek finishes, do not use brass or nickel polishes, abrasives, ammonia products, or anything that could remove the lacquer coating.

Door Finishes

Masterpiece Doors’ professional factory satin finishes by Sherwin Williams offer excellent durability and are easy to clean.

Masterpiece Door finishes are not under warranty, and finish maintenance is the responsibility of the customer. The longevity of painted finishes varies according to normal wear and tear, the quality of the maintenance, and environmental exposure.

Any qualified painting contractor can refinish a Masterpiece Door with painting supplies of his or her choice. If doors have been damaged, Bondo or Wood Fill may be used for repairs according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Primed Doors will require light sanding and wood filling, if needed, to get them prepared for finish painting, and must be finished within 24 hours of installation.

Cleaning Your Door and Glass

Masterpiece Doors’ beautiful finishes will last for many years with proper care and maintenance.

DO:

To clean the door, use a microfiber cloth with water and a few drops of surfactant free mild soap, such as Johnson’s Baby Soap.
To clean the glass, use ammonia free glass cleaner or a mixture of vinegar and water sprayed onto a cloth, not directly onto the glass.
To protect and extend the life of your finish, use Meguiar’s Shine as You Dry, or similar carnuba wax product available at Wal-Mart or any automotive supply store.

DO NOT:

DO NOT EVER pressure wash your doors.
DO NOT use bleach, abrasives, strong cleaning chemicals, or soap with surfactants to clean the door.
If your home is under new construction, do NOT allow your builder to let brick masons use muriatic acid cleaning solutions to come into contact with the doors.
Use of harsh or corrosive chemicals can cause damage to the door finish, and failure to insulated glass seals.

Maintenance of Former finishes

Finish Rejuvenation is a top coating technique that may be used to possibly restore wood grain finishes that have weathered due to exposure to environmental elements.

Finish Rejuvenation materials may be purchased or ordered from any Ben Moore paint dealer or Woodcraft, and are available in various sizes from half pints to gallons. Masterpiece Doors does not sell these materials.

For Bronze Finishes: Top Coating the original bronze finish with Clear Coat may serve to assist in restoration of an older bronze finish. If an entirely new finish is needed, purchase any metallic bronze paint of your choice from any paint vendor, and follow the advice of your professional painter or faux finisher for application.

IG Glass Failure

It is difficult to diagnose why IG glass fails, and it can sometimes be a temporary condition based on extreme or particular weather conditions. Glass units primarily fail due to pressure washing, particularly when combined with exposure to inappropriate cleaning agents that contain strong surfactants, solvents, chemicals, ammonia, or products not compatible with Super Spacer brand products. Simple Green is commonly used in pressure washing, and is an example of a strong surfactant that can cause IG glass failure. Other reasons for glass failure can include: applying secondary film to the glass, allowing indoor humidity to exceed 40%, or covering the glass with a storm door, shades, curtains, or other window coverings in a manner that traps excessive heat against the window surface, known as the “greenhouse effect.”

Masterpiece Door Glass Lites are SDL, or Simulated Divided Lite, which means there is one piece of glass in a door, even if the grill over your glass has multiple openings. Glass lites can be replaced. GBG Grills (Grill Between Glass) that were manufactured prior to 2023 have been discontinued. Replacement Glass Units will not have a grill inside the glass.
